Part 1 of the two-part film details the personal aspects of the attack, watching 22 people die and talking to the families of the victims and those affected by the events of that tragic night. The attack, which was later found to be carried out by 22-year-old Manchester citizen Salman Abedi, was the UK’s first suicide bombing in the 2005 7/7 London bombings.

Five years after the brutal attack, more information about what really happened is starting to emerge. As the ITV synopsis describes it, the film looks to “piece together a chilling timeline of the day” and provides an in-depth analysis of how it happened. The synopsis continues further: “In show one, we show the collision of two worlds, a countdown to the bombing, and a story that begins a quarter century ago.

ITV: What will happen to the world’s first episode of Manchester bombing exploration?

More information about Episode 2 has not been revealed, but according to Radio Times, Part 2 of the plan appears to be closer to the immediate aftermath of the explosion and attack. The second and final episode also looked closely at how emergency services responded to the incident, and why a failed counter-terrorism operation meant the emergency services’ response was delayed.

The first part of the documentary airs on ITV on Monday 11 April at 9:00pm. Episode 2 will air later this week on ITV on Thursday 14th April at 09:00pm.
