John Legend, more stars celebrate Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation: ‘Well-deserved’

Celebrities are celebrating history after the Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday, making her the first black woman to sit on the bench as a Supreme Court justice.

The Senate confirmed Jackson to the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. by a vote of 53 to 47. Three Republicans — Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Utah — joined all 50 Democratic senators The 116th Justice was confirmed. She will succeed retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.

Jackson also made history as the first life-appointed federal public defender.

Once news of her confirmation spread, the celebrity took to social media to commemorate the special moment with the hashtags #SheWillRise and #InKBJWeTrust.

John Legend tweeted his congratulations, calling the moment “historic and well-deserved on our Nation’s Supreme Court.”

“This is a landmark moment in our nation’s history! Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is now the first black woman to be recognized as a SCOTUS Justice in SCOTUS’ 230-year history. KBJ We see you and we celebrate you,” Eva Longoria tweeted Specially published.

“There are 115 Supreme Court justices, but no black woman has ever been appointed to the country’s highest court. Until now…my heart is still swell,” actress Alyssa Milano wrote on Instagram. “Congratulations, Justice Jackson.”

While congratulating Jackson, Rosario Dawson tweeted that she was “still stunned by the scale today.”
